Combining interpretive displays and contemporary art to celebrate the history of the Erie Canal.

The Image Farm worked closely with artist and historian Doug Lazarus to develop interpretive panels and a publication for a traveling exhibit narrating the story of America’s first great work of civil engineering. A series of interpretive panels for custom-built exhibit kiosks featured copy about the Erie Canal, Doug’s illustrations, and historical images. The kiosks also held paintings and drawings commissioned to show the canal through the eyes of artists living and working along it today.

We also created a full-color book that cataloged all of the artworks from the exhibit. Format and design were developed to showcase a diverse range of styles and mediums. The book included a foldout for a dramatic centerpiece of the show – a larger than life interpretation of Leonardo DaVinci sculpted in bronze by artist Dennis Sparling.
